The survey says “TAKE A HIKE!”  According to a recent survey of 1,005 U.S. adults, which Wakefield Research conducted on behalf of a travel booking site, confirms, mood boosting trips can be as quick as a few hours escape or a long vacation.  Of course, romantic get- aways came in first with both men and women, but the next best mood-boosting “hikes” were short excursions and not too far from home.

Red River Gorge 2How often do you need a simple get away with a date, (known as pink blazing in hiker’s terms), or with friends or alone?…. Men’s Best Guide Louisville has a fantastic recommendation on our very first “TAKE A HIKE” choice. Roughly 126 miles from downtown Louisville in east-central Kentucky, Red River Gorge.

The Gorge has been designated as a national geological area by the U.S. Forest Service and recognized as one of the world’s top rock climbing destinations and intimately known to climbers across the world as “The Red.”  The history is expansive and dates back to its’ founding in 1895 by the Lexington and Eastern Railroad.

Red River Gorge is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest and offers hiking at it’s best!  Can you imagine 29,000 acres (45 square miles) of sandstone cliffs, rock shelters, waterfalls and natural bridges hosting beautifully scenic trails, any time of the year, and the level of hike is your choice.Red River Gorge 3

Hikes vary in all ranges and are accommodated by world class hiking adventures for the daytime stroller or for the extreme hiking enthusiast. Once you have experienced Red River Gorge, this will be your new stomping ground and leave you craving more!

Very cool adventures can be had on whatever trail type you choose.  For an easy 1 to 2 hour hike hit the Rock Bridge Loop (1.5 miles) and ascend through paved and carved steps to a cascading waterfall.  Or test your masculinity and abilities by attempting the Indian Staircase.  This is a 3.5 mile hike, unmarked and dangerously difficult.  However, the views and scenery are spectacular and well worth the risk.
