Angels Envy Bourbon in Louisville

by

At this moment there are more barrels of bourbon aging in our great state than there are citizens living here. The bourbon industry in Kentucky brings in about 3 billion dollars annually and sales are increasing by 6% to 8% per year. Growth appears unlimited as worldwide demand skyrockets and Kentucky is the center of the bourbon universe with 90% of worldwide bourbon production taking place here in the bluegrass.

So, it seems strange to say that Angels Envy is the first full production bourbon distillery in Louisville since prohibition days.

Now, there is some dispute among the old time bourbon purists that because the finishing process used by Angels Envy is not traditional, it cannot be considered a true bourbon (the bourbon is finished in ruby port wine casks for an unspecified amount of time before bottling). However, the bourbon world generally accepts that this finishing process does not change the spirit itself.

The event included dignitaries from around the city and country, a presentation and proclamation from both the governor and mayor and the unveiling of a magnificent 40 foot tall copper still made by Louisville’s Vendome Copper and Brass Works, displayed behind glass like the work of art and craftsmanship it is.

Currently, Angel’s Envy has rolled out 3 different products – the standard bourbon, Angel’s Envy Rye which is finished in rum barrels and Angel’s Envy Cask Strength. The new distillery, however affords Wes Henderson and his team many options for future expressions and new distillations.

The new facility will be open Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.. upstairs-copyTours are $15 per person, and include a tasting at the “tasting log” which is a bar made from a white oak log so massive the floor under it had to be specially reinforced to accommodate its weight. The facility also features some beautiful meeting and party space available for rental. All reservations can be made online: https://www.angelsenvy.com/distillery/
