If ever I am told I have only one hour left to live what would I do? Easy. Kiss my wife, find my cutter, locate a cedar spill to light my cigar and pull a 1502 Ruby out of my humidor and Relax and Enjoy… Which happens to also be the slogan of Enrique Sanchez Icaza of Global Premium Cigars (full disclosure – I call this man not only a friend but a true advocate for the cigar industry and cigar smokers everywhere in being the first to join in a lawsuit against the FDA regarding recent FDA regulation of cigars) who is Proudly Nicaraguan™ and it shows in every puff and every cigar he brings to market. The Ruby is just one of 6 stellar cigars in the lineup from Global Premium Cigars and is my personal favorite with its medium strength. Picking a favorite it is more difficult than you think as each stick represents some of the best tobacco from Nicaragua you will ever smoke.
So what is on the inside? I really wish I could tell you but Enrique has never released details about the exact blend and I have asked. I do know that the blend is bunched with Nicaraguan tobacco from Jalapa and Estelí covered with a wrapper from Ecuador. Available in the following sizes: Robusto 5 x 50, Toro 6 x 50, Torpedo 6 1/2 x 52, Perfecto 6 1/8 x 52, Conquistador 6 x 56, Lancero 7 x 40, Corona 5 1/2 x 42 all box pressed and delicious. From foot to finish the 1502 Ruby for me has the lightest of floral notes, coffee and cocoa but nothing that overwhelms or diminishes alongside the most subtle of spice notes that just brings it all together in one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. Which brings me to a point that Enrique always reminds me of whenever I smoke any of his cigars -“It’s not a cigar, it’s a 1502!” and that summarizes his attitude and commitment to his craft, his business and to all of us.
